New Contest

You glance at the clock wondering if the minute hand is broken and suddenly there it is, the doorbell rings. Instantly your hands are clammy and you feel a bit queasy. Did you wear the right outfit? Does your make-up still look okay? You take a deep breath, close your eyes and open the door.

There he is, still as drop dead gorgeous, holding a bouquet of daisies and sporting a goofy grin. Your heart melts, he remembered your favorite flower.

“Are you ready?"

And boy are you ever.

Okay, I’ve never had a first date like this one…
I have had some pretty awful ones. One year, this guy asked me out for Valentines. He was the lead singer of a band that played in my garage.. Hawt, I know, right? : ) I'd known him in highschool, okay I had a major crush on him but so did half the other girls in school. I was so excited. I mean the guy everyone lusted over in highschool was going out with me! Well, he came to the door with a single rose and a huge smile... the rose was fake... and he didn't know it was fake. He was quite surprised when I didn't put it in a vase...

Yeah, I pretty much knew right then and there that it would also be the last date.

In my Rosette, First Date, Bret spends a part of the book wondering how he is going to ask Jill on a First Date. He, uh, never quite gets around to it.

So tell me about your First Date. It can be your first date ever or the first date with your significant other. Good, bad or neutral.

On Monday, October 19th, I’ll pick 3 winners! One commenter will win a copy of First Date, another lucky commenter will win a jar of Tickle and Taste body powder and another will win a $5 gift card to Starbucks. Good luck!!!

On my first date with the hubby, we were chit-chatting over dinner and all I could remember doing was hoping the conversation would end soon so he could kiss me again. I was never good about small talk. LOL! Just skip to the good stuff. :-)

My first date was the sixth-grade dance at my middle school. Jeff and I didn't do any dancing. We kind of wandered around, talking with friends about band (embrace the inner geek, I say!). Before the night ended, we snuck past security (aka our teachers) and met up in the off-limits band room...just to prove we could.

We were such rebels back then!

Lia~ I love it. Yup, dispense with the formalities.

Jaime,

I always almost spell your name wrong. My sister's name is Jaimie.
It's funny how rebellion changes over the year... no, as an act of rebellion, I don't put on make-up all day. (of course I'm home so...)

Thank you both for sharing and good luck!

I liked a guy who had a girlfriend so I had never dated and there was this sweet guy (a dork) who used to really have a crush on me. He finally talked me into a date. What the hell, right? LOL. So he picks me up, takes me to dinner at Dennys ( I actually love their chicken fried steak...LOL) and started to list off the names of our kids, pulled out a day planner (KID YOU NOT!) asking me my birthday for my 18th birthday a few years off so his mommy could plan our dream wedding (Nope, he seriously did), and when I got a bit freaked, claiming a killer headache to get out of that movie... in the car 'Every Breath You Take' comes on and he grins at me telling me this is 'our song' and it sums up exactly how much he loves me. Yeah, I was scared. LOL. I NEVER talked to him again. I talked to his mother, told her he scared me, and to please let him know how stalker it all was. LOL.

Wow, I'm loving everyone's stories!

Mine really wasn't traumatic or very interesting...it involved staying up late watching a movie and holding hands over a bowl of popcorn. LOL

Fun contest, Lynne! :)

Laurann, that is seriously scary. (I've always thought Every Breath You Take could be a stalker song)

Wonder what that mom felt like knowing her son was stalkerish. LOL

BTW Dennys has some AWESOME desserts. : )

Cari,
Ah, that sounds sweet. It's a good thing not all first dates are traumatic or overly interesting. There is something to be said for simple and sweet.

Thank you both and good luck. : )

Okay, my first date was with this really tall guy. I'm 5' 9" so I was thrilled when he asked me out. But what a bore! A shorter (and very sweet and cute) guy had been chasing me for a while, and I was holding him at bay because I thought I was too tall (I was really self conscious about my height in high school), but after the disaster with the tall guy, I said what the heck. Scott was so sweet. He called me every night when I was out sick from school for a week. He gave me his class ring and everything. But alas, we were only together for a short time. He quit school and joined the army.

I actually don't remember what I did on my first date, but I remember the guy. He only asked me out because he wanted to get to know my cheerleader, size 2, Homecoming Queen sister. Sigh. Maybe that's why I now write romances. So I can get the happy ending, not just her. No, I'm not still bitter. Really. I'm not. :)

Helen ~ You're proof positive that size doesn't matter. ; )

I never thought I'd date a guy who was shorter than I me, but I am. He's sweet, smart and very kind.

Becca ~ I think that's one of the reasons I write romance too. I love the happy ever after, the romantic/thrilling/sexy first dates, of which I've had few. : )

Thank you both for sharing. You ladies are awesome.

I am so in and I won't even hide why: I want the tickle n taste. Oh yea. Oh and I'm not grammar checking this comment, just cringe through it.

First REAL date, not from someone I already knew or started seeing in high school. He was older, cute, a gentlemen. He took me out to eat and then high up on a cliff to over look the city at night. Sweet. Then to a movie where he wanted to cuddle. First date, um no, but I had no backbone then so I went with it. Ever done that in a theater chair: UNCOMFORTABLE!

Second date he wanted me to play sports. Sweat! He wanted me to sweat on a second date, um no. He didn't like that and never called back. I'm glad his loss, my gain b/c I got my husband. Ha!

Crystal, LOL. Yeah, those chairs aren't the most comfortable. I'm glad you ended up with your hubby. : ) No worries about grammar (I don't check either)

Can't promise you'll win the tickle n taste, but I agree that you'd love it. ; )

Because I didn't mention it before:

I'll give your each of you a number and have one of the little ones draw the numbers.

First will be for the gift certificate for Starbucks.

Second the Tickle N Taste

Third the downlad of First Date.
