Friday Five Fun Facts

Five fun facts about First Date

1. First Date was my first attempt at erotic romance, at romance period.

2. Bret’s care was originally a Miata but one of my male friends argued strenuously against it. He suggested the Mustang GTO.

3. I see Mustang GTO’s everywhere now!

4. Jill was named inadvertently after a friend of mine that is completely unaware of that fact. She’d sent me a twitter message as I was trying to figure out a name for my heroine and it just stuck.

5. The house Jill takes Bret to see is my dream house.

Ah Duh!

Ever have one of those 'duh' moments? Well, I just did. Why?

How in the world did I not know my books were for sale on Amazon?

First Date

I should have known... there is no good excuse for not knowing.

After Hours

So, if you've read the book, and you have a few free minutes, I would really appreciate a few reviews. You would make me ever so happy. : )

Thank you.

And the winner is...

Jason!

Jason, your comment on 11/30 just won you a copy of First Date! Congratulations.

Yes, I'm late with this. My apologies!

When First Dates go wrong.

Come on, it was too good to pass up. I had to explore it just a little.

Have you ever had a horrible first date? Have you been tempted to use the, I have to use the restroom and then slip out the back door ploy? My sister was once on a date so horrific that’s exactly what she did.

Things to NOT do on a first date.

Do not talk about exes of any kind. This is a big warning sign.

Do not go to a remote location. While hiking or exploring may be something you love doing. Be smart. Wait until you get to know the person. Until then, stay in public.

Team Sports. And by this I mean playing the sport. Unless you are both into sports, don’t put your date on the spot by expecting him or her to play a team sport in front of people.

Do not take your date to a strip bar. I know some people who would so do this on a first date but for the majority of us, just don’t.

Don't drink too much.

Obviously all of these are conditional and depend on the people involved. Come to think of it, you probably shouldn’t have wild passionate sex in a barn on the first date either but hey, it worked for Bret and Jill. ; )

Your turn. Will you share some things you should not do on a first date? All commenters will be entered in the 11/30's contest to win a copy of First Date! Comment twice and you have a double chance of winning.

What are you waiting for?

First Dates

Recently, I ran across a website detailing what to do and not to do on a first date.

It has been a looong time since I've been on a date of any kind but it got me thinking.

Dinner and a movie is the most common first date idea, at least it's the one that first comes to mind. But if you think about it, it's not exactly conducive to getting to know someone. A mean dinner! Ack. I'm immediately tense just thinking about it. Don't order anything that may spill, drip or fly off the plate. Spaghetti is out, so is salad! Why do they make the lettuce leaves so large?

And then the movie? Yeah, sitting in the dark with your date and a hundred other people is not my idea of a good way to get to know someone. It is, however, a good way to avoid talking if the dinner conversation lagged... but perhaps that's another blog all together: When First Dates go bad. ; )

So, what's a good idea for a first date?

A picnic? This might be okay... except for the eating thing again.

Miniature golf? Now this sounds good. Even if you suck, it's fun, gives you something to do and an opportunity to talk. So as long as your date isn't uber competitive, this one is a go on my list.

Coffee.
Now this is the ultimate quick date... almost like a test date. I mean how long does it take to drink a cup of coffee? I suppose that depends upon how good the date is going.

Ok, so what is your idea of an ideal first date? Leave your answer and I'll pick one lucky commenter on Dec 7th to win a copy of First Date. (If you already have one, it'll make a nice gift for a loved one.)

New Contest

You glance at the clock wondering if the minute hand is broken and suddenly there it is, the doorbell rings. Instantly your hands are clammy and you feel a bit queasy. Did you wear the right outfit? Does your make-up still look okay? You take a deep breath, close your eyes and open the door.

There he is, still as drop dead gorgeous, holding a bouquet of daisies and sporting a goofy grin. Your heart melts, he remembered your favorite flower.

“Are you ready?"

And boy are you ever.

Okay, I’ve never had a first date like this one…
I have had some pretty awful ones. One year, this guy asked me out for Valentines. He was the lead singer of a band that played in my garage.. Hawt, I know, right? : ) I'd known him in highschool, okay I had a major crush on him but so did half the other girls in school. I was so excited. I mean the guy everyone lusted over in highschool was going out with me! Well, he came to the door with a single rose and a huge smile... the rose was fake... and he didn't know it was fake. He was quite surprised when I didn't put it in a vase...

Yeah, I pretty much knew right then and there that it would also be the last date.

In my Rosette, First Date, Bret spends a part of the book wondering how he is going to ask Jill on a First Date. He, uh, never quite gets around to it.

So tell me about your First Date. It can be your first date ever or the first date with your significant other. Good, bad or neutral.

On Monday, October 19th, I’ll pick 3 winners! One commenter will win a copy of First Date, another lucky commenter will win a jar of Tickle and Taste body powder and another will win a $5 gift card to Starbucks. Good luck!!!
