Popping the Publishing Cherry New Contest! First Kiss

There can only be one first time.

You stare into his eyes and suddenly you know its coming. Your heart speeds and time slows. Your gaze darts to his lips; soft and full, you imagine them on yours and a thrill of pleasure warms your body before you return your gaze to his eyes.

I think good or bad...

everyone remembers his or her first kiss. The tension: will he won’t he? Are my lips chapped? Breath okay? Will his breath be okay?
LOL It’s as nerve-wracking as it is thrilling.

Even if it’s not your first kiss ever, the first kiss between two people is special, in a sweaty palms, heart racing kind of way.

Today, I’m going to ask you to share your first kiss. It can be the first kiss you ever experienced or the first kiss with your current significant other. If you want to share your favorite fictional first kiss, or just say hi, that’s fine too. One lucky commenter between now and Wednesday, Oct 14, will win an electronic copy of FIRST DATE.
Me first?

I was fifteen and beginning to believe I’d be sweet sixteen and never been kissed when it finally happened. I was kind of going out with a senior. Tall, blond and charming, I was hooked. We were talking after school. A friend of his came to pick him up on a motorcycle. He got on the back and he leaned down to give me a hug. Out of the blue he kissed me right before he drove away.
LOL Not terribly romantic, I know. So now it's your turn. ; )

Hi Lynne! Congrats on your new release. I can't wait to read it.

My first kiss was when I was 14. I was sort of dating this "older man"--he was 17. I was so nervous, but so excited as I realized he was going to kiss me. I'd been an avid romance reader for years (read my first Harlequin at 11) and expected fireworks and shooting stars. Uh, no. It was gross, sloppy and wet. I was SO disappointed.

I think I was 13 or maybe 14... his name was Kurt Russel. NO, not that Kurt Russel. But the blond up the street. I remember babysitting his neighbors kids and he'd come over and talk with me throught the door. 'Cause he couldn't come inside since I was, 'babysitting' lol...

He walked me home one night... all of 4 doors down, and did the deed. The first one wasn't all that romantic, but by the end of summer, we had it down.

Hye Lynne,

I'm answering but have First Date, (I haven't read it yet, but I promise to soon!)so this is just for participation.

I got my first kiss when I was sixteen years old. Paul Seymour was that all important "first" love. We had met at a nearby park. I remember the air was heavy as it was the end of summer and a light rain had just rolled through. When we came to the sanded area with swing sets, he turned me around, lowered his head, and laid one on me.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but man, he could kiss. I've heard horror stories of tongues searching for gold at the back of the throat, but that wasn't so with Paul. He was gentle and slow and I remember he tasted incredible.

It was a wonderful initiation. I'll tell you that!

Becca,

LOL I think Harlequin did that to a lot of us! I read every one I could get my hands on between the age of 11 and 15.

Catherine,

Practice makes perfect. : )

Jaime,

What a wonderful story! And yes, you are very lucky.

Thank you all for sharing!

I was sixteen when I'd had my first kiss, which is amazing since I was so incredibly shy. Of course, I'd practiced on my hand and in the mirror, etc, beforehand. LOL! Nothing prepared me for the real thing. Sloppy and wet. He practically swallowed my face. Yuck. Yeah, we didn't date long after that.

Shawna Thomas said...

Lia,

Yeah, the sloppy kisses are the worst. Nothing like needing a mop after a make-out session. ; )

Thanks for commenting. : )

I only remember the horrible first kisses of my teenage years. I kissed many a boy thinking it surely had to get better. Alas, no!

But, my first kiss with my husband...well it was perfect...guess that's why we couldn't stop! It only took me 25 years to find him.

Ahh. I love a love story. I'm so glad you found him. Thank you for sharing, Emma.

I think my first kiss came after a kind of blind date my friend set me up on when we were juniors in high school. It was kind of a double date kind of thing. My date kissed me good-night on my front porch. I just remember feeling really awkward!

Shawna Thomas said...

Hi Debra! I think, in general, awkward is the name of the game for a first kiss... at least until you get started. ; )

Thanks for stopping by!

Congratulations on #3, Lynne!

My first kiss was wonderful, just the way you hear they're supposed to be. Only good memories there. Though I think it helps when you're over the moon for the guy... ;)

Shawna Thomas said...

Thanks, Cari!

And you're right, being over the moon makes that first kiss even more special.

My first kiss was not what everyone told me it would be. By everyone, I mean all of my friends in 7th grade. Yes, it took me that long.

My boyfriend at the time, soon to be my ex-boyfriend had tried several times to kiss me, but I had managed to thwart his attempts until our first 12+ dance.

He leaned in, I didn't move away, thinking it was finally time to bite the bullet and get it over with. As soon as his tongue snaked into my mouth, the gagging commenced. My gagging, and no it didn't end there. Poor guy wore all the cheetos and grape punch that I had eaten while nervously waiting for that slow song.

The next one, years later, went much better.

Shawna Thomas said...

Oh Renee,

I'm so sorry. Well, at least you can laugh about it now. Yes, the gag reflex is not something you want to happen when kissing.

Thank you so much for sharing.

My first boy/girl kiss wasn't really romantic at all. That's a good thing; we were both 5 years old. But he was my 1st boyfriend and even though I don't remember his last name and wouldn't know him if he came up kicked me; I'll always remember Sammy fondly.

Oh is this fun! Great contest! I was 15 going on 16 in a few weeks, shy, and went to a party my friends held. They were teasing me because someone made a joke about phone sex and I had no idea what it was...which got them all aware how innocent I was and someone asked me if I'd ever been kissed. Nope. So...there was this guy Greg. Anyway, all the girls there shoved me at him saying he could kiss and told him virgin kisser. I was sooooo embarassed. He was totally a hottie. Um, I know he was a stripper at some club because everyone talked about him... Anyway, he was sweet as could be, amused as hell, and took my hands. He had the most beautiful brown eyes and that bod... wow! He tugged me out of the room to the hallway and planted one on me. WOW! Yeah, it was pretty steller. Nothing sloppy or gross there. Then he asked for my phone number. Yeah. So... on our first date I found out he was 22 and he realized I was turning 16. He was a sweetheart. He said he'd just have to wait until I was legal to show me the rest of beyond kissing so he was a gentleman as well but he was just too old for me at the time so we parted ways.

Shawna Thomas said...

Laurann, you got my 'what if' spinning! You know, what if that happened and you met later... That's a wonderful story and romantic too. Thank you for sharing!

Sewicked,

I have a similiar story about the first time I ever saw... well.*ahem* ; ).

Thank you so much for sharing.
